abstract:
baseball: 1. South Korea wins first-ever WBC game 2-0 over Taiwan.
2. The 16-nation tournament started at 11:30 a.m.
3. Sung Heon Hong and Jong Beom Lee each drove in a run for South Korea.
4. Taiwan had a chance to cut the lead in the bottom of the sixth when it had
runners at first and third with two outs, but New York Mets reliever
Dae-sung Koo struck out pinch-hitter Lung-Yi Huang to end the inning.
5. All Group A games are being played in Japan. The top two teams will advance
to the second round in Anaheim, Calif.


woman: 1. 4 in 10 women report abuse by partner.
2. More than 40 percent of women surveyed in the Seattle area reported they had
been physically or psychologically abused by their husbands, dates or boyfriends.
3. They found 44 percent of the women, aged 18 to 64, had suffered some form of
what they call "intimate partner violence."
4. Anywhere between 25 to 50 percent of women may have experienced abuse.
5. Of the women who were abused, 13 percent said it had persisted for more than
20 years.
